6.18. Superimpose pages (version 1)

Superimpose pages (version 1) is a program that creates a PDF-document, the pages of which are created by imposing on the selected base file, several other PDF-documents. It is possible to specify the location of each superimposed page by specifying the parameters of one of the nine nodes.

Working with the module is divided into several stages:

STAGE 1. PREPARING OF SUPERIMPOSE PDF PAGES

Superimposed PDF-files can be prepared using random software, but Impozycjoner gives you extra tools supporting this process. The most important are: modules generating multi-pages PDF-files, whose pages are EAN13, EAN8 and QR barcodes and a module for changing subsequent lines of a text file (*.txt) into appropriately formatted PDF-pages.

Conwert txt to pdf is a tool that allows you to generate multi-pages PDF-pages, the content of which are the next lines of text from the specified text file. You can define a typeface, color and size of letters, background (or without any background) under the texts and you can add an additional phrase before and after the text in each row.

Visible preview of the sample text conversion "0001". Font and color are defined by elements [1]. Fonts and additional spaces around the text define the element [2]. Additional blanks> 0 will add additional background color to the text, and before and after the text. It is also possible to move the text up / down, right / left using the elements [3]. The need to use the correction can occur using specific fonts. The colored (or transparent) background is defined using elements [4]. The contour around letters is defined by element [5]. The phrase "/ 2019" added after the number has been specified in element [6].

Notice: you need to check if the lower and upper length extensions are within the scope of the PDF-page. If not, add additional spaces and move the text vertically. In the case of italics, it may be necessary to add additional spaces behind the text.

After determining the parameters, please indicate the text file to be converted. The name of the final PDF-file is the name of the text file with the extension *.pdf.

To prepare text files (e.g. with numbers) you can use the Number’s generator tool, available in the drop-down side panel.

STAGE 2. SETTING OUT THE NUMBER OF PAGES IN THE FINAL PDF-FILE

The number of pages in the final PDF-file is determined by indicating the base file (base) and determining the multiplier (number of repetitions) for the selected range of pages from this file.

  • Case 1: The base file is not specified, the base will be blank pages with certain sizes. The number of pages in the final PDF specifies the size of Number of pages.
  • Case 2: The base file consists of one sided page or multisided, but as a base there have been one side chosen. The number of pages in the final PDF is simply the number specified in the field Repeat: x. The base of each final PDF-page will be the first page of the base file.
  • Case 3: The file with the base is multi-page, the range of pages has been selected as the basis. The number of pages in the final PDF is the product of the number specified in the field Repeat: x and the number of pages in the given range. The final sides will change cyclically.

STAGE 3. ADDING SUPERIMPOSE PAGES

The file is selected after selecting one of the 8 switches. If the file has been loaded after selecting the switch, the "+" sign appears next to the number of the switch (file).

The following control elements (node, node coordinates, page range, options) refer to the file "assigned" to one of the 8 switches. Changes to these parameters for any file can be made at any time after selecting the appropriate switch.

STAGE 4. SETTING OUT PAGES OF THE SUPERIMPOSE PDF-FILE, WHERE THE SELECTED FILE WILL BE SUPERIMPOSED

In the following examples, the resulting PDF-file has 12 pages. The imposed pdf no. 1 also has 12 pages. The first page of the file indicated as the base PDF is the base.

  • The most popular case: the number of superimposed files equals the numer of pages in the final PDF-file. The first page on which the file superimposing will start is page 1 of the final PDF. The first page to be applied is the first page of the imposed PDF. The number of superimposed pages determines the difference between numbers From the page and To the page.

  • The first page of the final PDF on which the superimposed file will start is the page specified by the Start from element (e.g. from 3). Pages from superimposed PDF with numbers greater than 10 will be omitted.

  • Particular case: From the page and To the page have the same value e.g. 5. The beginning of superimposing is the page with the number given in the field Start from (e.g. 2). Switch On pages has the value ABREAST.

STAGE 5. SETTING OUT THE POSITION OF THE SUPERIMPOSED FILES

The location of the files to be superimposed is determined by specifying the coordinates of the selected node (group Node coordinates). The node selection is determined in the element group Node.

There are 9 nodes defined by a combination of two signs:

  • H (horizontal: L – left, C – central, R – right)
  • V (vertical: T – top, C – central, B – bottom)

e.g. LT: node Left Top.

The selection of the node is made by selecting the appropriate location from the drop-down lists.

The coordinates of the selected node are given by specifying the value. The 0.0 point is the upper left corner PDF (MediaBox).

Example: pages with name.pdf (assigned for file No. 1) will be placed such that the center of these pages (node V=C) will be placed 59 mm from the top edge. The pages will be centered (H=C) in relation to the point distant from the left edge by 77 mm.

General remarks

  1. To align the imposed PDF-files to one of the side edges (left, right or center), align them to the appropriate H nodes (L, R or C, respectively).
  2. If you want to align the imposed PDF-files to one of the upper edges (top, bottom or center), align them to the appropriate V nodes (T, B or C, respectively).
  3. The option of linking result files is a test function and may end with an error. In this case, better results can be achieved by combining partial pages using other external programs.
  4. If the pages in the PDF-file are of different sizes (and this is almost always the case when using the PDF Generator tool from a text variable), if you want to center the position of each page in relation to the given coordinates, these values (coordinates) should be defined for the CC node (coordinates) centrally in the vertical and / or horizontal).
  5. Tests show that the program copes with files with a number of pages up to 2000. If you need to personalize prints with a larger number of pages, it is good to divide the work into parts.
  6. The pre-determined location of the selected node can be made by clicking the mouse on the visible page view.
  7. Turning on the button showing the actual page image will replace the simulated images of the overlapped pages (in the colors of the switches to which they have been assigned) - their actual images.

Example: Complete certificate personalization (100 pages) by imposing:

  1. Name and surname (node coordinates CT: 77:53 mm);
  2. Number in black (node coordinates CT: 77:67 mm);
  3. QR code (node coordinates LB: 16:200 mm);
  4. Number in white (node coordinates LB 38:200 mm).

  • Stage 1: creating a text file with numbers from 0001 to 0100 with the "/2016" phrase added at the end;
  • Stage 2: creating a PDF-file with names (Titilium SemiBold 30 pt, black) based on the available text file;
  • Stage 3: creating of a PDF-file with numbers in black (Titilium SemiBold 12 pt);
  • Stage 4: creating of a PDF-file with numbers in white (Titilium Thin 10 pt);
  • Stage 5: superimposing of PDF-file with names;
  • Stage 6: superimposing of PDF-file with numbers in black;
  • Stage 7: superimposing of PDF-file with QR code (on each page the same code);
  • Stage 8: superimposing of PDF-file with numbers in white.
