5.11. Collation/fold mark

Applies only to the imposition of books.

Cutter (otherwise: internal bleed) this is the part of the folded sheet that will be cut off in the gluing machine with the cover. In the figure below (left) marked in red. It is cut to bring glue to all sheets - otherwise only the outer sheets of the stack would be glued.

In the cut area a special marker is drawn – the collation signature – for the optical control of the correct arrangement of the sheets in the right order.

On each subsequent odd side of the sheet, the marker is drawn higher and higher, so that on the back of the block prepared for gluing you could get a drawing like in the picture on the left. Any deviation from the resulting image is a reason for alarm. In the example on the right, two sheets are swapped.

Collation mark

Collation mark should have a width not greater than twice the value of the cutter, otherwise it will becollation mark visible in the finished publication.

Collation mark it can be movable (with variable size and position, depending on the number of contributions) and fixed (with size and user-defined position).

How is the mark height calculated with size and variable position? The height of the target page size is divided into the number of sheets needed to print the +2 publication, including the half-press sheets (increasing the "+2" sheet count is for the marker not to draw near the bottom or top edge of the folded sheet).

By perfect binding (SNS) imposition collation mark can be drown on each folded sheet. The mark can be also drown in case of sewn binding, for which 4-Pages gatherings can be collected. By sewn binding (B variant of the program) the signature is drawn on the odd side of the first sheet in each gathering. In the sewn-binding "4-Pages" (option C of the program), the signature is drawn on every "4-Pages" gathering.

Turning on the MARKS NUMBERING switch will draw a number on the mark.

Fold mark

As a rule, the collation mark is drawn on the back of the sheet. In special situations, it can also be drawn on the edge of the top and / or bottom sheets ("edge" mark). In addition, when the signature is drawn on the edge of the page, not on the sheet break, it is possible to repeat it on the even sides of the sheets (switch + EVEN: YES).

Adhesive strip

By impositioning of glued binding with the use of folded sheets, a problem may accure (for some types of glue and paper) with gluing a book (publication) on colorful page's bleeds. Impozycjoner program allows you to plan underneath the drawn signatures (or independently) the narrow, white stripes that allow the glue to adhere exactly to the unprinted paper.

In the picture above, an imposition example with an adhesive strip with a width equal to the width of the back mark.
